Cornel Ban is the author of ten peer-reviewed articles on economic policy strategies in Southern Europe, Eastern Europe and Latin America, professionals and economic policy, the politics of IMF fiscal policy advice and European financial crisis management. His most recent book was published by Oxford University Press and deals with the local adaptation and crisis resilience of global economic paradigms in Spain and Romania. Dr. Ban also co-edited special issues on the IMF, the BRICS and shadow banking for leading journals such as Review of International Political Economy, Journal of Common Market and Governance. At Boston University he also serves as the co-director of the Global Economic Governance Initiative. Dr. Ban was born and raised a few kilometers away from Telciu.
Anne Tittor is a researcher at the Sociology Institute, Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, and the coordinator of the Bioeconomy and Inequalities. Transnational Entanglements and Interdependencies in the Bioenergy Sector research group, financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Her research interests include theories of development, transnational studies and globalization, environmental policies, social policies and health in Latin America, social inequalities and social movements. Between 2010 and 2013 she worked as a research assistant at the University of Kassel, Germany, Department of Political Sciences; between 2011 and 2013 she was also the scientific coordinator of the doctoral studies programme in Global Social Policies and Governance, at the same university. She is the author of several scholarly articles and studies.
Julia Roth is a post-doctoral researcher and instructor within The Americas as Space of Entanglement(s), project financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, at the Centre for Inter-American studies, University of Bielefeld, Germany. Previously, she worked as a post-doctoral researcher within the interdisciplinary project desiguALdades – Interdependent Inequalities in Latin America at the Free University of Berlin, and a lecturer within the Latin American Institution (Free University of Berlin) and within the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies (Humboldt University, Berlin). She conducted her research in Mexico, Argentina, Nigeria, New York and Cuba. Her PhD thesis focused on Western gender constructions in Latin America. As a doctoral student, Julia Roth has obtained a scholarship within the Cultures in/of Mobility (Potsdam) and was a member of the doctoral studies program Gender as a Category of Knowledge, Humboldt University, Berlin. Her current research focuses on the production of transnational feminist knowledge in Hip Hop.
Madina Tlostanova (b. 1970, Moscow) Chaired professor of postcolonial feminisms, department of Thematic Studies (Gender Studies), Linköping University, Sweden. Tlostanova has taught in decolonial international summer schools (Tarragona, Middelburg, Telciu), was a DAAD visiting professor at the University of Bremen (2006, 2011), an international researcher at Duke University (2007), a visiting international scholar at Södertorn University (2014) and Linköping University (2013, 2014). Since 2008 Tlostanova has served as an editor (from 2011 to 2015 as the chief editor) of the Russian journal Personality. Culture. Society. She is the author of nine scholarly books, over 250 articles and two novels. Her most recent books are Gender Epistemologies and Eurasian Borderlands (N.Y., Palgrave Macmillan, 2010), Learning to Unlearn. Decolonial Reflections from Eurasia and the Americas (Ohio State University Press, 2012, co-authored with Walter Mignolo) and Postcolonialism and Postsocialism in Fiction and Art: Resistance and Re-existence (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017). Manuela Boatcă is Professor of Sociology with a focus on macrosociology at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, Germany. She was Visiting Professor at IUPERJ, Rio de Janeiro in 2007/08 and Professor of Sociology of Global Inequalities at the Latin American Institute of the Freie Universität Berlin from 2012 to 2015. Her work on world-systems analysis, postcolonial and decolonial perspectives, gender in modernity/coloniality and the geopolitics of knowledge in Eastern Europe and Latin America has appeared in the Journal of World-Systems Research, Cultural Studies, South Atlantic Quarterly, Political Power and Social Theory, Berliner Journal für Soziologie, Österreichische Zeitschrift für Soziologie, Zeitschrift für Weltgeschichte and Theory, Culture and Society.She is author of Global Inequalities beyond Occidentalism, Ashgate 2015 and co-editor (with E. Zoltán Rostás (b. 1946) is a professor at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences, University of Bucharest. He taught at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (1993), the BBC Journalism School (1994), the Sociology Department of the University of Szeged, Hungary (2000) and the Sapientia University of Miercurea Ciuc, Romania (from 2001). He is a member of the Academic College of the Romanian Peasant Museum (from 2005), the Society of Sociologists from Romania and the Romanian Society for Cultural Anthropology, member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (USA), European Association for the Advancement of Social Sciences (Austria) and of the Société des Europénistes, Bruxelles. His main research areas are oral history, political and organisational anthropology, history of the Romanian sociology, interethnic relations, and public relations.

Ovidiu Ţichindeleanu (b.1976). Philosopher, translator and culture theorist living in Chişinău, writing on critical social theory, decolonial thought, new materialisms, Eastern Europe and the cultural history of postcommunism. Studied philosophy in Cluj-Napoca, Strasbourg and Binghamton. PhD in Philosophy, Binghamton University (2009). Editor of the biannual of critical theory and contemporary arts IDEA arts + society and collections coordinator of IDEA publishing house, Cluj, Romania. Co-founder and editor of the independent journal Philosophy & Stuff (1997-2000). Co-founder of the independent platforms Indymedia Romania (2004), CriticAtac.ro (2010) and LeftEast International (2012). Former member of the working group for the integration of Central and Eastern European Countries in the European Social Forum (2006); organizer of the Eastern Europe – Global South Initiative (WSF Tunis 2013). Member in the Board of Directors of El Taller International, an international NGO dedicated to conceiving and organizing non-retributive forms of social justice, such as the International Courts of Women. From 2012 teaches at the Decolonial School of the Roosevelt Institute, Middelburg, Netherlands and since 2016 he teaches at Telciu Summer School, Romania. Natalia Picaroni Sobrado, born in 1981 in Montevideo, Uruguay. From 1999 to 2001 she studied Psychology in the Universidad de la República in Uruguay. In 2001 she emigrated to Austria, she has lived in Tirol, Vienna and Upper Austria working mostly in sport, as a trainer. From 2003 on she studied Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Vienna obtaining in 2008 a Magister degree, with a thesis in the field of south-south cooperation, and in 2015 a PhD with a dissertation on the incorporation of physicians who studied in Cuba in the health care arrangements of Uruguay and Chile. From 2006 on she conducted fieldwork in Latin America, specially as a doctoral fellow of the University of Vienna (2009) and of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2010-2012) in remote rural areas and indigenous territories. In 2012 she established in Santiago, Chile. She works for the Williche Community Koñimo-Lamekura in rural Chiloé and as an invited lecturer at the Universidad de Chile. She is currently a posdoctoral Fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses mainly on medicine and health. Her applied work focuses on promoting artistic and cultural expression as the coordinator of the group Weche Folil.
Cristobal García Toledo, born in 1978 in Santiago, Chile. He learned the weaver handicraft from his mother and several other handicrafts as a child. From 1997 to 1999 he studied Fine Arts at the Universidad de Chile but did not complete his degree. He has lived in Chile, México, France, Spain and Uruguay working mainly as an artisan. From 2005 on he studied Film at the Universidad ARCIS in Santiago (mention in Film Direction). He has worked with children and teenagers in rural settings in Uruguay and Chile transmitting his filmmaking skills and supporting his student’s projects. From 2010 to 2014 he carried out film workshops for the group Weche Folil in rural Chiloé and supported several projects of the Williche Community Koñimo-Lamekura in rural Chiloé. Currently he works mostly as a characterization and special effects artist for film and theater and continues to support community initiatives in Chiloé.
Vitalie Sprînceană is a philosopher, journalist, sociologist, and activist from the Republic of Moldova. He is the coordinator and editor of the PLATZFORMA.MD, established in 2013, a platform for critical thinking and stance. As a sociologist, he has been writing on topics such as the sociology of globalisation, sociology of religion, urban sociology, philosophy, and political sociology. He co-edited the volume „Republica Moldova la 25 ani: o încercare de bilanț”/‘The Republic of Moldova at 25 years: a reckoning attempt’ (Editura Cartier, 2016) with Petru Negură and Vasile Ernu. As an activist he is implicated in topics such as urban rights, inclusive public spaces, and the protection of architectural and cultural patrimony. He is the coordinator and active member of the Urban Civic Network of Chișinău. He writes frequently as a journalist about current social, cultural, and political affairs in publications both from the Republic of Moldova and outside of it.
Bogdan Iancu is a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration of Bucharest and researcher at the Romanian Peasant Museum. He acquired his PhD in 2011 in ethnography and anthropology from the University of Perugia. His research focuses are in social anthropology, visual anthropology, marketing and consumption sociology, the sociology of the everyday life, environmental anthropology, and material culture.
Monica Stroe is a lecturer at the Department of Sociology at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration of Bucharest. She has a Master Degree in Nationalism Studies at Central European University from Budapest and a PhD in sociology from the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration of Bucharest. She is interested in nutritional anthropology, consumption sociology, environmental and landscape anthropology, and the anthropology of patrimony.
David Schwartz (b. 1985) is a director, graduate of the Caragiale Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography, Bucharest, he has a PhD in Theatre and Performing Arts from the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj. He is one of the initiators of the independent theatre platform tangaProject and president of the O2G-Ofensiva Generozităţii (The Offense of Generosity) association. Since 2013 he has been a coordinator, article and interview author, editor, and copyeditor at the Gazeta de Artă Politică (Political Art Gazette) trimestral publication. He authored articles in publications such as CriticAtac, Dilema Veche, Otherness: Essays and Studies (Danemarca), Platzforma.md (The Republic of Moldova), Scena.ro, Studii de Teatru şi Film (Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj). Veda Popovici graduated from the Faculty of Plastic Arts, West University of Timișoara in 2008, specialising in painting. She finished her doctoral studies at the Bucharest National University of Arts. Next to her research and theoretical concerns Veda Popovici is active in artistic dimensions as well. In 2016, she obtained an artistic residency organised by the curatorial collective Blok, Zagreb; in the same years, she was invited to the artistic project ‘Englishes’. Lectures, debates and a video premiere, by Nicoline van Harskamp and the Salonul de Proiecte (Projects Salon). In 2015, she opened her personal exhibition, entitled Istoria artei respusă prin Pătratul negru/The History of Art Retold Through the Black Square, at the Atelier 35, Bucharest. In 2014, she participated with the Migrant’s Monument, installation and reader, at the group exhibition Because We Navigate Different Lanes, Salonul de Proiecte, Bucharest; while in 2013 she held the performance The Congress of the Presidential Candidates at the Temps d’Image Festival, Cluj-Napoca, 11-17 November.

As a playwright, her scenes have been translated and played by other directors in theatres from the USA, Canada, Chile, Japan, and Europe, in prestigious theatres such as the London Royal Court, Schaubuhne Berlin, Kammerspiele Munchen, Volkstheater Vienna, Royal Dramatic Theatre of Stockholm, and various other theatres from Italy, France, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Belgium, Ireland, Danemark, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Israel, etc. Her pieces have been published internationally in publications such as Oberon Books from London, Actes Sud from Paris, Martin E. Segal Center from New York, L’espace d’un instant from Paris, Theater der Zeit from Berlin. She conducted international residencies at the Royal Court (2004) and CEC Artslink at the Lark Theatre New York (2007). Vlad Petri (b. 1979) graduated from the Caragiale Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography, specialising in Film Imagery and Television (2004). He obtained his Master’s degree in Visual and Media Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin (2014). He conducted the following documentaries: Revelion 2008/New Year’s Eve 2008 in 2009 together with Mădălina Roşca; București, unde ești?/Bucharest Where Are You? in 2014; and La pas pe litoral/Step by Step on the Seaside in 2016 with Vlad Ursulean. In 2008 he initiated the Photon project with Marius Iacob, carrying out photography and film workshops addressed to a large audience, especially high school and university students. Since 2012 he is an instructor at the Visual Education workshop within the Ideo-Ideis young theatre festival. He was instructor at the ‘Focus Atelier’ (Cluj, 2015) and GoBucharest (2016). He worked as a director of photography in several documentary film porjects, including ‘Circuit’ (directed by Monica Lazarescu-Gorgan); ‘Procesul’/‘The Trial’ (directed by Claudiu Mitcu); ‘România, marea curățenie’/‘Romania: The Great Cleaning’ (directed by Ruxandra Annonier); ‘Rețeaua’/’The Network’ (directed by Claudiu Mitcu); ‘Hollywood Haq’ (directed by Demir Yanev); ‘Wayfarers’ (directed by: Jelena Modric, an Aristoteles Workshop production). Starting with 2012 he documented the University Square protests in Bucharest, filming and regularly publishing online the videos and photographs of the events in Bucharest or other places. Maria Brudașcă is a visual artist, specialising in traditional and digital graphics, book illustrations, and animation. She obtained her PhD in 2017 in Visual Arts from the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca. She is active in the areas of book illustrations, graphics, and design. She is the illustrator and graphic designer of the monthly publication: „Ghidul Pozneț de cultură pentru copii”/‘The Mischievous Guide of Culture for Children’ (September 2016 – March 2017). Tiberiu Bleoancă (b. 1980) is a visual artist, specialising in drawing, painting, and sculpture. In 2005, he gained his Master’s degree in Sculpture, from the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca, in 2003 he finished his Bachelor’s degree at the same university, specialising in sculpture. Claudiu-Lorand Maxim (b. 1991) is a theatre producer and cultural manager. In 2013 and 2014 he graduated from the Theatre and Television Faculty (Department of Theatre Production) alongside the History and Philosophy Faculty (Department of Philosophy) of the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca. In 2016, he gained his Master’s degree in Performing Arts and Film from the same university. He is a founding member of the Reciproca Association (founded in 2014). From 2015, he is the initiator and director of the Focus Atelier workshop and debate platform, with two editions till date. From the same year, he has been manager of the Troc Educational Theatre Network, organised by the Reciproca Association in partnership with the Replika Educational Theatre Centre and the Reactor Creation and Experiment. He worked as a Theatre Producer for the Romedin Project, organised by the Desire Foundation and the Tranzit Foundation; as an Assistant Producer at the 8th edition of the Temps D’Images International Festival, Cluj-Napoca; and as a resident producer at the RAP – Residences, Workshops, Publics project in 2015, organised by the National Dance Centre Bucharest and the ColectivA Association. He is the producer of shows such as 9 din 10/9 out of 10 and Poker directed by Leta Popescu, shows co-produced by the Reciproca Association and the Reactor Creation and Experiment Space.
Silvana Elisabeta Râpeanu (b. 1987) is active in education since 2014 as a professor and museum lecturer. In 2009, she graduated from the History and Art Theatre Faculty, Bucharest National University of Arts. Between 2010 and 2012 she studied for her Master’s degree in Museum Studies and Critical Theory at the Contemporary Art Museum, Barcelona and the Autònoma Unviersity of Barcelona. Between 2014 and 2015 she attended Master’s courses in Community Assistance and Development at the Sociology and Communication Faculty, Transylvania University, Brașov. She regularly participates in seminars and workshops dedicated to diverse educational models and other related topics: collective mapping of the social space workshop (Iconoclasistas, within the QUAM 2011 – WIKPOLIS, Vic), political pedagogy seminars (Solar e. within KuBiZ, Culture and Education Centre, Berlin), introduction to Waldorf pedagogy (Romanian Waldorf Federation and the House of Teaching Staff, Cluj), The Nonformal Education Laboratory from Gura Portiței (National Agency for Communal Programs in the Domain of Education and Professional Forming from Romania – ANPCDFP), training in remedial education for adults (Roma Education Fund, Bucharest), nonformal education workshop within CONNECTOR 1.0 și 2.0 (ANPCDFP, Cluj-Napoca); melotherapy and music teaching training (Muzika Charity Trust, Bucharest), introduction to Dalcroze methods (Culture Through Music, Bucharest), Erasmus projects + in ecological education and social justice issues (Quantic Association).
Lucia Mărneanu is a graduate of the Fine Arts Faculty within UAD Cluj. She received scholarships in Croatia and Belgium, where her specific focus was book illustration and comic strips. She published works in GAP and Tataia magazines. She is a founding member of Reciproca association. She made animations and illustrations for shows such as Call it Art (d. Leta Popescu, National Theatre Cluj), S.R.L. (d. Florin Caracala, Paintbrush Factory) and Kinderzimmerzauberei (d. Leta Popescu, Teatrul Gong Sibiu).
